Glossary M Terms

MDI

Master Document Index defines every drawing that will be prepared and issued. It also defines the date by which we must receive approved status for our drawings.

Maintenance

Trent prepares a maintenance manual for every project, which recommends inspection frequency and maintenance procedures.

Masonry

Hand set masonry and granite facings often form part of a cladding project. Typically ground floor facings are left off until towards the end of construction. Wherever possible it is better to prefabricate as much as possible.

Master Programme

Trent's Master Programme sets out our contractual commitment, showing phases of design, drawing, special materials procurement, moulds, casting and site erections.

Mechanical Fixing

Most fixings for support and restraint and structural connections in frames are designed and detailed as positive mechanical connections.

Method Statement

Defines the means, materials, equipment (i.e. the method) that will be adopted for each operation on a project.

Mix Design

Trent designs all concrete mixes to meet the strength, colour and texture requirements for each project. Several thousand mixes are listed, spanning over 70 years. Refer to the sample library.

Mixing

Concrete is mixed in Trent's on-site, computer managed batching plants.

Mock-up

Most large jobs have a mock-up using production units or, occasionally, specially made components. Mock-ups can be erected in Trent's yard or on site. Mock-ups for dynamic testing are built at a test facility, e.g. Taywood Engineering.

Moulds

Trent builds robust, highly accurate timber moulds in-house, supplemented by specialist external mould makers. Fibreglass moulds or mould liners are used for seamless surfaces. Steel moulds are less frequently used because of higher cost and lack of flexibility.
